Poll Code To Delay Disbursal Of Municipal Scholarship Amount | Pune News

Pune: Over 9,500 meritorious students will have to wait longer for their municipal scholarships as the allotment would be delayed because of the code of conduct of Kasba Peth bypolls.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved scholarships for 11,000 students, including those in Std X and XII.
Around 1,500 students got the scholarships before the bypolls for Kasba Peth and Chinchwad were declared.
“Most students would have received the payment by now as per the routine annual schedule. But allotment has been kept on hold as of now,” a senior civic official said.
The official added, “The remaining students will get the amount in March once the code of conduct is over.”
PMC offers scholarships to meritorious students every year. On average, around Rs 20 core is spent on these scholarships annually. A student who has scored more than 85% marks in SSC and 80% marks in HSC is eligible for this award.
The scholarships have been instituted in the name of Bharat Ratna Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (for SSC) and Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe (HSC). The budget provisions are made for it annually.
“These scholarships are important to pursue higher studies. The money is expected to be used for paying fees. Many students from poor financial backgrounds are benefiting from this initiative,” the senior official said.
Applications for the scholarship are called for in September. After the scrutiny of the documents, the scholarships are awarded in December and January.
